We firmly believe that only a business model that protects the needs of future generations and respects our planet will deliver long-term commercial success. Therefore, the PWO Group has pledged to reduce its own environmental footprint in all business processes through binding targets and specific measures. We will save energy and resources wherever possible, and set a good example in our industry. With our innovative strength, we are developing environmentally-friendly technologies and sustainable solutions for our current and future areas of activity. By doing so, we are also enabling our customers to make their own business operations more sustainable. Our employees are instrumental in mapping out the climate-friendly mobility of the future. They contribute their own ideas and bring our strategies to life.
We believe in science-based solutions. That is why we are committed to the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). We will almost halve our emissions from our own production by the end of 2030. In addition, we are taking responsibility for our supply chain, as we will also reduce the resultant emissions here by almost a third by the end of 2030. This demonstrates our support for the Paris Climate Agreement.
Jochen Lischer, CFO, PWO
As an engineering house, we take a science-base approach, and have joined the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). It enables companies to set specific science-based targets to reduce their own CO2 emissions, thus acting as a driver for ambitious climate protection in business.
Based on findings from climate research, SBTi defines and promotes best practice that helps to reduce greenhouse gases.
We have set ambitious targets that we aim to reach by 2030!
Scope 1 (direct CO2 emissions of PWO) & Scope 2 (energy emissions):
Supply of energy and heat is particularly important to Scope 1 and Scope 2, and causes the highest CO2 emissions there. PWO is committed to reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 46.2% by 2030 compared to the base year 2019.
Scope 3 (upstream and downstream supply-chain emissions):
Supply chains are a key contributor PWO’s overall CO2 emissions. Just under 90% of Scope 3 emissions stem from purchased goods and services that PWO needs for its production. By 2030, these emissions are to be reduced by 28.0% across the company's supply chain compared with the base year 2019.
The PWO Group has identified 3 areas of activity to achieve its ambitious climate targets by 2030.
More efficient processes and conversion of the heat infrastructure enables more sparing use of electricity and gas and preservation of resources. PWO will embed its climate targets in its corporate management in order to promote a change of mindset throughout the Group.
