From the big picture to the smallest detail: Sustainability means taking responsibility – for the environment, on social issues and for our own company. For us, that means that doing everything in our power to protect both the climate and human rights. This requires clear goals.
Our ambitious Planet 2045 program sets high targets for doing business sustainably in the mobility industry. On the way to net greenhouse gas neutrality (“climate neutrality”) by 2045, we have defined specific milestones we want to achieve to actively shape the environmentally friendly mobility of the future:
Scope 1: direct emissions arising within the Group (e.g. production and vehicle fleet)
Scope 2: indirect emissions caused by the purchase of energy from third-party providers (e.g.,of electricity and district heating)
Scope 3: other indirect emissions occurring in the upstream and downstream supply chain (e.g. through the purchase of raw materials)
metric tons of CO2e emissions (Net scope 1 and 2)
percentage CO2e reduction rate (Scope 1 and 2)*
percentage share of green electricity
* The percentage refers to the figure in 2024 compared with the base year 2019.

Our photovoltaic system, which was put into operation at the start of 2024, generates a total of around 820,000 kWh a year at our site in San Cristobal. This level of output allows us to optimally cover our energy consumption, taking into account fluctuations in production over the course of the year. In addition, we focus on instruments recognized by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), such as green electricity certificates issued under the I-REC Standard, to fully supply both our sites in Mexico with green electricity.
Our new engineering and production site in Čačak, Serbia, is a significant milestone in our decarbonization strategy. This is because our focus was on sustainability when both planning and constructing it. For example, heat pumps powered by green electricity have been installed, and the building structure has been designed with hall heights adapted to requirements, high-quality thermal installation and a roof structure prepared for a PV system so that the carbon footprint is kept as low as possible. Intelligent machine placement and heat recovery also help to maximize energy efficiency.
Water is one of our most valuable resources. Responsible water stewardship is therefore a key building block of our sustainability strategy. This is why we also want to contribute to greater water resilience and take an important step toward holistic water management: with detailed analysis of our water use, the development of a strategy covering the entire group and, as a result, site-specific risk mitigation.
As a participant of the UN Global Compact, our aim is to join with other companies to achieve collective positive water impact in at least 100 vulnerable water basins by 2030. At the same time, we want to reconfigure our global sites and supply chains so that they can continue to do business sustainably in the face of increasing water scarcity. We are tackling these changes in accordance with the highest international standards together with strong partners such as the Carbon Disclosure Project and the CEO Water Mandate.
In PWO’s view, protecting health and well-being is one of an employer’s fundamental responsibilities to its employees. Our Group has therefore implemented a holistic occupational safety management system to prevent risks from work-related accidents, work-related and occupational diseases and other health risks.
It is our stated aim to implement occupational safety management systems certified in accordance with the internationally recognized ISO 45001 standard at all our sites. To avoid occupational accidents as far as possible, we continually improve our technical and operating safety standards and our guidelines and work instructions for accident prevention.
